STEVE SOTIR - WBA Board Member
Steve Sotir has rather a unique story when it comes to his baseball coaching career.
Sotir grew up in the Cincinnati area and played for the well respected Midland program during his youth. He had the opportunity to play collegiate lev
el baseball and then aspired to test his abilities in the field of coaching.
Sotir was presented with the opportunity to become an assistant baseball coach at Florida University and Georgia Southern University (GSU) after his playing career came to an end.
Under the guidance and leadership of the legendary Jack Stallings at GSU, Sotir was introduced to the international baseball federation (IBAF).
Sotir was placed in a position that allowed him to experience first hand the growth of the game on a global scale. As Director of Player Development for the IBAF, Sotir had the privilege to travel the world helping grow the game while working along side some of the top baseball leadership in the world.
His long term involvement with the World Children's Baseball Fair led to personal relationships with Hall of Famer's such as Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Harmon Killebrew, Lou Brock, Sadarahu Oh, Joe DiMaggio, and many other legendary baseball figures.
In the mid-1990's, the IBAF headquarters transitionied it's operations to Switzerland. At that time Sotir made the decision to stay within the United States and began working with the USA Olympic Committee in Marquette, MI.
Through a series of professional opportunities, Sotir landed in Fort Wayne, IN as a well qualified administrative leader for Southwest Allen County Schools and now serves as the athletic director for their middle schools.
Today, Sotir is also the head baseball coach for Homestead High School and continues to be one of the most well respected international development leaders amongst the international baseball community!
The World Baseball Academy is proud to have Steve Sotir as a key component to the passion and mission of this organization!
